Focus on flu

25th October 2022 - 5:00 PM

A message shared on behalf of Head of Nursing, Helen Raine

We all know flu is unpleasant to say the least; a cough, sore throat, runny nose, headache, exhaustion, aches, fever… the symptoms are nasty, come on quickly, and last much longer than anyone would want.

More than your average winter cold, flu can be dangerous – even life threatening – especially to those who have long term health conditions and/or are vulnerable.

This is why the NHS offers the flu vaccine, for free, to eligible patients, every year.

This winter, flu is likely to be widespread through the community. Getting flu and COVID at the same time means you could be seriously ill.

Across our practices in Hull, York and Scarborough our flu clinics for adults and children are well underway. Where possible we are also offering COVID boosters at the same time as the flu vaccine (it’s perfectly safe to have both).

If you’re in one of the eligible groups for a flu vaccine we highly, highly recommend you take up the offer to get vaccinated. The flu vaccine is safe and effective and it will not make you ill or give you flu!

I hope to see you at one of our vaccination clinics very soon.

Helen
